Washington D.C. Part 3
We devoted our last day to some "off-campus" activities with Justin and Kate. We started off at brunch with Daniel's friend Mike, his wife Courtney, and their boys Aidan and Jackson. Our Aidan was happy to see some boys after a girls-only night at Tom's the night before! Justin and Kate (and their sweet dog Bentley!) picked us up and we drove to Mount Vernon to see George Washington's estate.
After that we drove to Arlington Cemetery (poor Bentley stayed in the car) where we saw JFK's grave in addition to the thousands of memorials for soldiers who gave their lives. It was incredible and very humbling.
The last thing we did was see the Franklin D. Roosevelt memorial, which I had never seen before. It was very impressive, and we also were able to see the Jefferson Monument and Martin Luther King, Jr. memorials from afar, but we decided we were too tired to walk over and see them up close.
What a trip!!! The kids were so excited about everything and Daniel and I are already trying to think of where we can go on our next family vacation.
