Bowling with the Boys

Instead of a big party, we decided to do something a little more low-key this year for Aidan's birthday. So he invited five friends over to go bowling and spend the night. After we got home from bowling, the boys had pizza and cupcakes, watched Star Wars, did some sock wrestling, and just played and had fun! Aidan has had sleepovers before but never with more than one friend...so it was pretty rowdy! But they had a great time. Thanks Connor, Hayden, Chase, Cade, and Tate for celebrating with us!
If you're asking yourself, "What is sock wrestling?" it's a game in which you try to get your opponents' socks off of their feet (while protecting your own!). Everyone has a sock that's halfway off their foot, and you have to stay on your knees while trying to steal socks and become the last man standing. It's hilarious! Here's a clip:

Aidan's Birthday Weekend!

Aidan turned SIX on Friday! He had breakfast on the red plate that morning, then Avery and I brought him Chick Fil-A for lunch at school. We also brought Spiderman cupcakes to share with his classmates on the playground. After school we had frozen yogurt with Kaelyn and Tracey! That night he had a small bowling/slumber party (separate post) and then the next day Grandpa and Nanna drove up to help us give Aidan his big present from all of us, a basketball goal! Grandpa and Nanna joined us for a family dinner at Cristina's with Cody, Amy, Sage, and Logan. I cannot believe my baby boy is getting so big! Aidan, we are so proud of the little guy you are turning into. You are social and love being with your friends...you are also a sweet and protective big brother (and cousin!) and you are a great "big kid" for them to look up to! You are what I call "all boy": you love sports, gymnastics, and just being outside. You are into superheroes, Star Wars, Transformers, pirates, army men, Legos, you name it. You've had an amazing year in kindergarten and you are right in your element at school. We can't believe how great you are doing with reading, writing, and math! You love asking questions about God, Jesus, and are starting to understand just how much He loves you. You are very thoughtful, friendly, big-hearted, fun-loving, analytical, inquisitive, and you love to challenge yourself. We love you SO much!

I got all my sisters with me

After my wrist surgery on Friday, I was in a lot of pain for the rest of the day. Daniel took great care of me and two sweet friends took care of my kids and chauffered them around town. My out-of-town friends that were supposed to stay with me that night very sweetly arranged to stay elsewhere...I missed them and felt awful, but I really needed to rest. I woke up Saturday feeling better so I met them all at the Warrior Dash race site right after they finished. It was very bittersweet hearing their funny stories and seeing them covered in mud but I was SO proud of them!!! They all wore wrist bandages in my honor. I teared up when I saw them...I love these girls and they have been super supportive of me throughout my ordeal :) Courtney, who's a nurse, even made me a Bling Sling which I LOVE!! After the run we went to the Gaylord where we lounged by the pool and then had dinner. And then, the moment I had been waiting months for...Le Freak, a disco cover band played at one of the hotel clubs! Dancing with one good arm isn't easy (and I know I looked like a major idiot), but I wouldn't have missed this experience with my KD sisters for the world. Seriously, I would have shown up in a body cast. The weekend was so fun and I am still cracking up at some of the memories. Laughter is definitely the best medicine :)

Ice Skating Gone Bad

Here are some pictures of Steward Family Fun Day last Saturday, at the Galleria. We let the kids see a clown show and then decided to go ice skating. I HATE ice skating but figured I'd be a good parent and take the kids. The one time I decided to let go of the edge (to catch up with Aidan who kind of seemed to enjoy it), I had to stop to avoid hitting someone, and fell back on my wrist. It's broken and I'm having surgery on it tomorrow to get pins put in for 6 weeks. Did I mention I was signed up to do the Warrior Dash mud run this Saturday with several college buddies from out of town? We had planned it for months and this has definitely put a craptastic damper on my weekend :( Still hoping to see them lots before and after the race! Daniel has been a big help...and he just got done with his weekly traveling which is a major blessing. The kids have been very sweet and are learning about chores...I'm so thankful that they're pretty self-sufficient these days (Avery has a little ways to go...but she's getting there)! My local friends have been amazing with meals, helping with the kids, buttoning my pants, and cheering me up. My first broken bone has NOT been fun but I guess it could be worse :)

He is Risen!

The kids went over to the Denneys' house last night while Daniel and I went out for our 11th anniversary, and they made resurrection rolls (they had a hollowed out space with a marshmallow placed inside to represent Jesus, then after they were cooked the marshmallow had melted so the "tomb" was empty! I love that our kids are old enough to ask questions about the resurrection of Christ (especially Aidan) and are really starting to get it.

We got dressed up this morning to celebrate with our church family, then the Easter Bunny snuck into our backyard to drop off some eggs for the kids to find. Happy Easter!!!
