IceMageddon 2013

Texas had a massive ice storm this past weekend that is still leaving parts of DFW frozen! Thursday after-school activities were cancelled because of the impending storm and by Friday morning it had sleeted so school was closed. Plus Daniel was in NY and his scheduled flight home was cancelled. The kids and I woke up with no power Friday so I had to channel my inner pioneer wife and start my first fire. We snuggled up and watched a movie on my iPad until the power came back on a few hours later. Some of my friends were out for MUCH longer so we were lucky. Here's what IceMagedddon looked like at our house. Notice our poor tree in the backyard by the swingset. We're very lucky that the big trees we have out front are the kind that lose their leaves as soon as fall hits. A lot of our neighbors had tree damage from all the ice.
Inside, we stayed busy by playing games, making cookies, drinking hot chocolate, and watching movies. No one has enjoyed the ice days more than Griffin! He HATES being alone, so having us home for days on end has been a dream come true for him. Reality hits tomorrow, buddy!
Meanwhile, Daniel ended up flying into Houston Friday and renting a car, and decided to stop in Waco for the Baylor game on Saturday. At 25 degrees with freezing wind, he said it was absolutely the coldest he'd even been. Better him than us, although I really wanted to be there for the last game at Floyd Casey Stadium :( The kids and I watched from home and cheered on the Bears as they beat UT and became the Big XII Champions!!!
He finally got home Sunday afternoon and we were SO happy to see him. School was cancelled again today (Monday) for some unknown reason...everyone was afraid there would be another freeze but there wasn't. Daniel very nicely chose to work from home today so I wouldn't go crazy. The kids and I decided to let him work for a bit while we joined Aunt Amy, Sage, and Logan at the movies! Frozen was super cute :)
HALLELUJIAH FOR SCHOOL TOMORROW!!!!
