Things have been a little slow around here, which is good! Just business as usual, I guess. The weather's been halfway decent so we went with our Moms Club friends to the park one afternoon. I had LASIK on my eyes!! It was something I'd wanted to do for a long time. The surgery was very easy and I was fine afterwards. It caused my eyeballs to hemorrhage which was normal, but ugly...luckily the redness is almost gone now. The first week was a pain...I had to keep my eyes extra hydrated and couldn't get water near my eyes or wear make-up for a week, plus I had to wear these lovely eye shields to sleep. We had to say good-bye to $3500 ($3150 for the surgery plus very expensive medicated eyedrops!), but it's nice to say good-bye to contacts and glasses as well! Aidan's last karate class was last week. I may put him in another session after t-ball (which just started and is pretty time-consuming!) is over. Aidan is the second one from the right.
Cousin Logan's first birthday was this past weekend so it was fun to see family and celebrate with him!
It's gorgeous outside this week...hallelujah!!! Last week we had a cookie-decorating party with our MOMS Club, and Avery's playgroup had a valentine-making party this morning. It's been great to get out and see friends since we were cooped up for about a week because of the snow. Happy Valentine's Day from our two cupids :)
Apparently Colorado's weather was delivered to the wrong place...we have been experiencing what could be Dallas's craziest winter ever! Last week FOUR days of school were canceled, which is unheard of. The roads were icey on Tuesday and Wednesday, and then were okay enough on Thursday that we were able to get out a little to see some friends and have some playdates (and Daniel went to work). Then we woke up to about 6" of snow Friday...so we went over to Cody and Amy's to play in the snow! Aidan & Avery missed both days of MDO last week so I practically kicked them out of the car when I dropped them off yesterday ;) But another ice storm rolled in last night (Snow Day #5!), so I'm praying MDO will be in session tomorrow...I've been kind of losing my mind! The kids have been fine and they play together pretty well, but I can tell they get antsy so I've been trying to channel my creative side. Here's some of what we've been doing:
Table tent: Brownie Making: Cushion Fort: Crafts (we also made valentines!): Just hanging out and playing: In the snow with Sage: Our snow robot: Another table tent with Sage and Logan:
This weekend was gorgeous!! We had weather in the '70s and really enjoyed it. On Friday I met up with my friend Jodi and got to meet her new baby girl Bailey! Aidan and Avery had a blast running around and riding the train with with Bryce and Brendan. On Saturday we packed a picnic lunch, the kids' bikes, and our soccerball and headed to the park. Avery got a pink tricycle for Christmas and this was the first chance she'd had to ride it for an extended period of time. She did great! Later that day we picked up dinner and met up with Cody, Amy, Sage, and Logan at our neighborhood park for some more outdoor fun! So, short sleeves on Saturday and ARCTIC BLAST predicted three days later. Only in Texas :)
My mom came to town last week, and the kids and I drove with her to see some of our West Texas family! We stopped in Abilene to stay with Great-Pa and Gamma for a night, then drove to Midland the next day to see Mema, Uncle Reggie, Aunt Jeri, and Cousin Jessica. It was FREEZING when we left Dallas, and just as cold in Abilene...but it was warm enough in Midland to enjoy some time at the park with Clyde, Reo, and Zeppelin the dogs. And of course, we ate at Luigi's!
It's been FREEZING this past week!!! We got some snow last weekend, so Cody and Sage came over to play in it. Daniel was in New York most of the week, and I had planned to host a PJ/Game Night for my Mom's Club while he was gone. Uncle Cody nicely offered to baby-sit Avery for me, and Kaelyn's daddy offered to baby-sit Aidan (and he ended up spending the night!). I decided to return the favor and have Kaelyn over for a sleepover last night. The kids played with watercolor books that they got for Christmas: Avery has gone to two princess birthday parties in the last week, for Kella and Bella :)
Avery has been binky-free for almost two weeks! After Christmas, we decided that we would "give" all of our pacifiers to Baby Logan. I talked to her about it beforehand and she went along with it, but reality set in soon afterwards, and naptime/bedtime were very hard for several days. There were several tears, and a few mentions of "I can't find my binky!" in the middle of the night. But she has kicked the habit and I am so proud of her! Although I must say I will kind of miss seeing her with it, since it was her "baby" thing. But we are ready to move on to the next big-girl step...potty-training (UGH!).
We went on a field trip with Mom's Club to Young Chef's Academy, a place that does cooking classes for kids. Avery was old enough to participate and she loved it! They made sausage breakfast tacos and snowmen cookies. Yummy! I have finally gotten my good camera working again...my mom gave me an external flash for Christmas and it works great!
This week Aidan started his first karate class through our city parks & rec department. He was really excited about it, especially the uniform that we got to buy.
2010 was a busy but fun year! We are really saying good-bye to the "baby" years and welcoming the kid years! Aidan and Avery are growing up so fast and I love seeing new experiences through their eyes as they get older. Here is some of what we did this past year:
We celebrated Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Easter, 4th of July, and Halloween: Cousin Logan was born!! Aunt Lindsay lived with us for a few months before finding a job in the area...also she just got ENGAGED!!! Aidan did his second season of blastball: and his first season of Upward Soccer: and two sessions of Vacation Bible School at friends' churches this summer: and church choir: and learned to swim: and enjoyed lots of time with his favorite friends: Avery took Soccer Tots: and a music class: and Baby Ballet: and started gymnastics: It snowed!! In Texas!! We went with the Waggoner/Dixon/Fairbrother family to Fossil Rim: Daniel and I went to the Baylor basketball Sweet Sixteen game and the Texas bowl football game, both in Houston: I had lots of fun Girls Nights Out with my mom friends, including a whole weekend get-away in downtown Dallas: We took a family trip to Great Wolf Lodge which was a blast: Aidan turned 4 and we celebrated pirate-style at Pump It Up Jr: My mom had her first speaking engagement at the Baylor Womens Luncheon which I got to attend: We had fun with the Lewis family: We took a trip to Cedar Creek Lake with the Waggoner/Dixon/Fairbrother family: We had a new pet named Dory...for about three months :) The kids started another great year of MDO at our church: I ran my very first 5K after months of training with some great friends: Daddy had a busy year at work and even made some time for recreation: We made a few trips to Crawford to see Grandpa and Nanna, and the kids got to ride Rusty the horse: Avery turned 3 and we celebrated Little Mermaid-style at ASI Gymnastics: We went to the State Fair of Texas: We took a family trip to Florida for Daniel's work conference and to see Papi and Grammy! The kids stayed with them so Daniel and I could have some kid-free time :) We went to the beach and celebrated Halloween there! I hung out with my KD buddies in Dallas, and at Baylor Homecoming: I flew to New Orleans for the weekend to see my favorite KD friend, Leslie: We had a wonderful Christmas in Crawford, Comanche, and home in Sachse: Wishing all of our friends and family a Happy New Year! Can't wait to see what 2011 has in store for us!
