We made it to the Waterparks before they closed for the year! Aidan, Kaelyn, and Kaelyn's cousins all had a great time. I thought the cold water would freak Aidan out but he loved it. Afterwards we took the kids to the playground and let Kaelyn and Aidan ride in an infant swing together. Aidan laughed and smiled the whole time! I took a video with Tracey's camera (the battery on mine died) so check back for that. He sure does love doing fun things outdoors these days. He turns five months old today, if you can believe it!
It's gradually getting a little cooler, which means Aidan gets to start wearing his fall clothes! Tomorrow is Aunt Lindsay's birthday, so we all went to lunch today to celebrate early. We went to Babe's Chicken which is a really good family-style restaurant. Aidan's schedule gets a little off on Sundays because he doesn't take his usual morning nap in the church nursery well, so by the time we got to lunch he was tired and fussy. He slept on the way home but then woke up and was ready to party for the rest of the day! Daniel and I taught the 1-year-olds at church today so we were EXHAUSTED. There were only four of them and they were cute, but man they wore us out. So it was a long day for all of us. But Aidan conked out at bedtime and now Daniel and I can relax!
Here are a couple of cute pictures of Aidan hanging out with his friends. One picture is of Bryce McGrew and the other one is of Rhett and Wyatt Chacon. It's hard to believe Aidan was that small just a few months ago! He loves seeing other babies which makes playdates fun :) He is sitting up now, although he topples over sometimes!
Aidan and I went on an outing to the Dallas Arboretum today! We went with my friend Tracey from my mom's club and her daughter Kaelyn, who is a few months older than Aidan. It was so much fun and the weather was gorgeous! We walked around and had a picnic lunch, then both kids crashed in their strollers.
Aidan's been a little under the weather this week. His nose got stuffy the last night of our trip and it's still acting up a little. Plus he has an occasional dry cough but the pediatrician says it might be allergies. Despite it all, he's in great spirits! He loves going to his gym class once a week and is really interested in other kids and babies. He's been perfecting some new talents, especially rolling over from back to tummy. He can also sit up on his own for a few seconds before toppling over. We like to go in the backyard in the evenings when it's shady.
We survived our trip to West Texas! We stopped at Gamma and Great Pa's farm in Abilene on Thursday night and Aidan got to play dominoes and ride Pa's 4-wheeler (Watch the video). Then the next day it was on to Midland for the weekend to see the Jolly family. Aidan got to meet his great-grandmother Mema and his second cousins Tyler and Clara! He also spent plenty of quality time with Grammy and Papi, and Aunt Jeri read the famous "I am a Mouse" book to him. As is Jolly tradition, we had Italian food at Luigi's, plus some Mexican food. Then we stopped in Abilene for one more night on the way back to Dallas. Aidan did very well in the car and he also did great amidst all the chaos, despite one or two "I'm overwhelmed!" meltdowns and the fact that he's teething. His nighttime schedule got off track, but hopefully it will be back to normal in a few days :) Here are some pics of our trip:
Aidan is already four months old! Here are a couple of random pictures from around the house. It looks like he has inherited my tendency to have red-eye! He had a VERY fussy day yesterday, starting with a trip to the pediatrician's office for his four-month visit. He got measured and weighed, but after that something upset him and he lost it! The doctor saw us briefly, but he was so inconsolable that we had to reschedule his shots for today :( We met Daddy for lunch today and then he had his shots...although he hated them (I don't blame him!), he wasn't as upset he was yesterday and he was back to his usual self this afternoon. Go figure! Anyway, we are headed for West Texas to see my side of the family this weekend! It will be a fun but busy trip so PLEASE wish us luck! I'll try to update as soon as I can.
Today Aidan and I went to The Little Gym in Rowlett. They have a class specifically for babies so we decided to give it a try. Aidan loved it...he was wide-eyed the whole time! There were two other babies there, little girls twice Aidan's age. But he held his own and showed everyone how strong he was. He even did a somersault!
Aidan loves his Johnny Jump-up. Sometimes it puts him right to sleep! The mirror in the picture is one of his favorite new toys. We are easing back into our bedtime routine after our trip last weekend threw us off a bit. Aidan's friends Rhett and Wyatt Chacon (my friend Sarah's twins) were born last week so I stopped by to visit yesterday. They were so cute and tiny! It's hard to believe Aidan was almost that small just a few months ago. Time sure flies!
It looks like most people thought Aidan resembled his dad! Thanks for all the votes. Here are a couple of cute pictures I shot today (he's giving his best "diaper face" in one) and one of his 3-month portrait shots. He now has a tendency to roll from his back to his side when we least expect it...he doesn't just lay there like a blob like he used to! He also loves grabbing his foot with his hands, and I know those feet will be in his mouth before we know it. Until then, his hands are still his favorite chewtoy :)
We survived our first car trip with Aidan! We traveled to Comanche (3 hours away) for the 117th annual Cunningham reunion this weekend. To give you an idea of how big the reunion is, it started with Daniel's great-great-great grandmother and her eleven siblings. Their descendants gather every summer and there's even a prestigious "Youngest Cunningham" award given out. Unfortunately we were robbed of the plaque this year because someone brought their 16-day-old baby girl! Anyway, Aidan was a champ most of the weekend all things considered. We spent most of our time at Great-Grandmother's house rather than the reunion campgrounds since it was hot and there was so much going on. But he did manage to meet some new relatives, including his Great Aunt Phyllis, Cousin Emily, Great Great Uncle Weldon, and Great Great Aunt Adele. He slept the whole way back and I could tell he was glad to be back in familiar territory when we got home. Oh, and he loves playing peekaboo now!
My aunt Jeri and my cousins Jessica and Meredith came to visit today from Midland! Aidan was so excited to meet them. He met Uncle Reggie and Aunt Marsha his first week home (I'm attaching pictures from their visits so you can see how much he's changed since then!), and we'll meet the rest of the Jolly clan over Labor Day weekend.
Leslie and Jack went home today...as you can tell, the boys were sad to leave each other after becoming such good friends :) I wanted to post a few more photos we took during their trip. We blew up the inflatable pool in the backyard for the boys. Jack was the only one that got in all the way, but it felt SO good to stick our feet in since it's scorching outside these days! Aidan also got to try out his Johnnie Jump-Up today and loved it!
